Artist Lena Ignestam lives and works between Malmö, sweden and copenhagen, denmark.

Also known as one part of
Zunino Ignestam Studio.

Lena Ignestam’s (1965) art is thoughtful and meticulous. She reflects on concepts such as utopia and dystopia, the connection between history and the present, collapse and hope, the small in the big.

Her work is chiseled out from several layers of philosophical, psychological and political questions. It is the place and the story that inspire her. The different mediums and formats she uses vary from polished marble, bronze cast sculptures, or ordinary paper turns into three-dimensional moving sculptural works in her hands.

Ignestams thinks and creates in the space between everyday considerations and contemporary issues of destiny. What does the interaction between man and nature look like? What is happening to our planet? The search for answers is reflected in her sculptures, public art, embroidered textile artworks, large watercolours, animations and technologically advanced paper works.

With both humor and seriousness, Ignestam is involved in various collective artivism projects  that deal with matters such as how the threat of a lost future creates anxiety and confusion in a global world.

Lena Ignestam (1965) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1999 and studied at the Nordic Art School in Karleby, Finland 1988-90
